What do the Dalai Lama and Tony Robbins have in common? – they both promote kindness to others and to ourselves.

I have been lucky enough to see both of these amazing men in the past two months and it’s really helped me to understand what is important in life.

The fundamental reason we are all here is to be kind to one another and to be kind to ourselves. What I have learnt from practising this is – you start to lead a happy life.

I know it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day dramas, but the way to pull ourselves out of this, is to do something kind for someone else. It makes you feel good. When we feel good, we do good in the world.

An Example of Kindness in Action

I had four tickets to give away when I went to see the Dalai Lama. Three of them I managed to give away, but I still had one left. I didn’t want the spare ticket to go to waste so I took it with me to the venue to see if I could give it away.

As I walked up to the registration desk, there was a lady standing in the queue (even though there wasn’t a queue :-)). I asked her if she was waiting in the queue and she said ‘well sort of, I was waiting to see if anyone had a spare ticket’. I said, ‘I have a spare ticket! You can have this one!’

What are the chances of that? Ahh the synchronicity of life. The great thing about that incident was that I felt good being able to do that for someone and she felt good knowing that she could see the Dalai Lama.

Then another amazing thing happened – I go in to listen to the Dalai’s Lama talk and his main message is about being kind to people and doing kind things for them. I just love that!

Tony Robbins Feeding America

The same with Tony Robbins. He feeds two million people a year in America through his Anthony Robbins Foundation. His next aim is to feed 100 million people with his “Feeding America” campaign. The reason he is motivated to do this, apart from being a kind man, is that a man fed his family once when he was young when they didn’t have enough money to eat. So he wants pay that kindness forward to others.

So to me that is the true meaning of life – being kind to one another.

Inspiring Role Models

These two great men have certainly inspired me to start doing more kind things for people each day. The other two people who have always done this are my mother and mother in law. They are always performing acts of kindness for others and it shows. They have also passed this idea on to their children – all of whom I would say do random acts of kindness for people throughout the year.

The Challenge – To Do Something Kind for Someone Today!

So I challenge you to stop what you are doing and go and do something kind for someone today. It doesn’t have to be a big thing. Then let me know in the comments below what you did. I would love to know how it made you and the other person feel.

One act of kindness is the first step toward changing the world into a happier place.
